Aura Keyboard works with the mouse, a touch screen, your computer keyboard and MIDI keyboards. It needs no download and no account. It is a beta, and its interface is in Spanish for now; the section below explains the main buttons in English.
Simple mode: play and learn
- Nine instruments: piano, electric piano, organ, guitar, strings, pad, bells, synthesizer and bass.
- Note names (Do Re Mi or C D E) and colours to help you learn.
- Songs to practise step by step: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Ode to Joy, Frère Jacques and Für Elise.
- “No wrong notes”: play inside a chosen scale and you cannot be out of tune.
- Backing in an Andalusian cadence, pop, blues, jazz or canon styles, plus flamenco handclaps.
Pro mode: sound design and recording
- Four synthesis engines: subtractive, additive, FM and plucked string.
- Filter, envelopes, LFO, arpeggiator, chorus, echo, reverb and saturation.
- Recording in MIDI (with a downloadable .mid file) and in audio, which can be saved as MP3.
- USB MIDI keyboards, with sustain pedal, modulation wheel and pitch bend.
Playing from your computer keyboard
By default the white keys are on the home row (A to L) and the black keys on the row above (W, E, T, Y, U, O, P), so it works on a Spanish keyboard without reaching for distant keys. Other layouts are available, including a two-octave layout like the one many music programs use, and you can build your own. The space bar acts as the sustain pedal.
Play along with the radio
A tab called “Toca con la radio” estimates the key and the tempo of the live Aura Radio stream and marks on the keyboard the notes that fit, so you can improvise over whatever is playing. The estimate is automatic and approximate.

Is it really free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, with no download, no account and no payment.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, with touch. There is a full-screen mode designed for holding the phone sideways, although it has not been tested on every device.
Can I use a MIDI keyboard?
Yes. A USB MIDI keyboard works in a browser that supports Web MIDI, with sustain pedal, modulation wheel and pitch bend.
Is there an English version?
Not yet. The interface is in Spanish; this page lists what the main controls are called.
